Designer for the Month November
Agnes Rothney
I began making jewellery 16 hours a day due to having BPPV - I dabbled before in that last September I attended a class with my friend for her birthday and only made up pendants that I could paint on. However due to being off work for so long I asked my friend to give me some of her jewellery so I could put it together for her and that was it - off I went and started to do my own designs.   I just love the wedding jewellery and what a lovely feeling to see the bride wearing something you have designed yourself , not to mention the bridesmaids and the mums!!  I do a lot of bespoke jewellery where my local ladies bring a piece of material and off I go to source colours and a design to match their outfit.
My hobby was painting but the jewellery is taking over so much so that I hardly paint at all.
I go to classes at our local bead shop in Stockbridge or Haddington and find these most helpful - I remember 18 months ago when I would go in to the shop with my friend Sandra I would say to the girls in the shop I am not buying anything I don't do jewellery I paint!  The girls in the shop keep reminding me of this!!
I have gave up my work now due to the Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo and make jewellery all day long - what a treat - I am now doing a class at the Linlithgow Arts Beads and Craft shop.  I did a demonstration for the local WRI ladies and have another one coming up for the local Church ladies so I am not bored but busy and it is a lovely feeling with no stress just beads, pearls and crystals to play with all day!!
Once I can drive again there will be no stopping me - I will go to every bead shop in the country and classes all over to feed my hunger for beading - thank goodness I found it!!

Note from me: Agnes hasn't been beading for very long but in just the last few months her jewellery has really come a long way. Well done Agnes .

At the bottom of the page is one of Agnes's paintings I think it is incredible!
